I designed my CD cover using the Photoshop CS3 programme. I took several images of Buildings, Clouds and Shoes to use in my CD cover production, I finally decided on two images. I wanted to design an Indie Rock genre styled cover that appeals to an older audience. I wanted the cover to be taken seriously and to make a subtle statement. When doing my CD Cover montage I found that the plain black and white albums stood out to me a lot me than the colourful loud images on other covers. Adele 19 made a big statement to me, that she as an artist really wanted to be taken seriously she’s of a young age, this is reflected in the album name. The large image of her face made the statement that this was all about her. The Just Jack and the Artic Monkeys cover also made that statement.
The image I used for the front cover really reflected massage I wanted to portray. The original image was in colour. When placing it in Photoshop I decided to take out all the colour and change it to black and white. I had to crop the image so it wasn’t distorted, and fill the rest of the space black. When doing this I found the two shades of black didn’t match and I had to use the colour replacement cherry picking tool to match the black from the original image to the cropped colouring. I found my text on a website called Dafont.com the text name was Madison Square. I thought that this name would make a great Band Name. The album name ‘Don’t look Back’ came from the idea of the man in the tunnel not looking back, the name is very insistent command and also reminded me of the album ‘Don’t look back in Anger’ from band Oasis, The image they portray is similar to the one I wanted to portray in my album. I used many effects on my text. Outer glow, Inner glow, Bevel and Emboss, Color Overlay and Satin this made the text stand out and gave it a retro styled feel, appealing to the older audience.
The image from the back cover is again very plain and dark but reflects back well to the ‘Don’t look back’ album name. I took the image at the low angle to get the sole of the foot to emphasis the ‘walking away.’ The original image was again taken in colour, I changed the image to black and white and used the tool Hue and Saturation to distort the image so that the ground was distorted and blurred and for the upper left side of the image to also become blurred and distorted. Giving an eerie feel, the legs to the person look ghostly and strange. The font ‘Bush Script’ used was from the Photoshop programme it self. I then went to the effects tool and gave it an Outer glow to make it stand out.
